Our Grantees

Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE)
CSTE, a public health-focused non-profit organization, represents the individual State and Territorial Epidemiologists across all U.S. states and territories. Schmidt Global Health advances the applied epidemiology workforce by conducting foundational activities to prepare for and respond to outbreaks and emergencies including measles, improving collaboration with Tribal Health, and developing future and current epidemiologists for applied public health work.

Global Strategies
Global Strategies works to improve the quality of care delivered by frontline healthcare workers in settings with limited access to medical specialists. Schmidt Global Health supports Global Strategies to assess the potential of data routinely collected with the use of clinical decision support tools to evaluate and improve public health surveillance of neonatal mortality and other reportable conditions.

Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI)
The Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI) is a university-wide academic and research center in humanitarian crisis and leadership. Schmidt Global Health supports HHI in strengthening Ukraine’s emergency care response systems by designing and implementing robust standard operating procedures (SOPs) in partnership with Ukrainian medical authorities. HHI’s work in Ukraine empowers providers, strengthens systems, and improves access through all stages of emergency care response.

NOVA Southeastern University
Nova Southeastern University's Institute for Neuro-Immune Medicine (INIM) collaborates to unravel the complexities of chronic conditions such as Long Covid, Gulf War Illness (GWI), and ME/CFS through translational research. Schmidt Global Health supports Nova INIM’s Long Covid Sipavibart Clinical Trial, a placebo-controlled, randomized, blinded phase II clinical trial of the long-acting monoclonal antibody Sipavibart as a therapeutic for Long Covid.

Project ECHO
Project ECHO is the WHO Collaborating Center for Digital Learning in Health Emergencies supporting sustainable systems for just-in-time virtual mentoring and collaborative problem-solving. Schmidt Global Health funds multiple Long Covid ECHOs and Project ECHO’s support of WHO health emergencies education.
Robert Koch Institute
Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is Germany's central public health institution, hosting the WHO Collaborating Centre for GOARN to strengthen global outbreak alert and response capacity. Schmidt Global Health supports RKI's GOARN Berlin Fellowship Programme, helping train the next generation of global health leaders from GOARN partner institutions worldwide.

Scripps Research Institute
Scripps Research is one of the world's largest, private, non-profit biomedical research organizations. Schmidt Global Health supports Scripps Research Translational Institute to carry out the Long COVID Treatment Trial-Tirzepatide (LoCITT-T), a decentralized, fully remote, nationwide phase 2 clinical trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of the dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist tirzepatide as a therapeutic for Long Covid.
Sierra Leone Ebola Database
A joint project of the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health and Sanitation and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Sierra Leon Ebola Database (SLED) preserves and manages treatment, testing, death, burial site, risk factor and symptom data from the 2014-2016 West Africa Ebola cases in Sierra Leone, essential to supporting families' ability to visit their loved ones' resting places and a vital source of research data for preparing for future outbreaks.

The Conversation
The Conversation is a nonprofit, independent news organization dedicated to unlocking the knowledge of experts for the public good. Schmidt Global Health helps the Conversation reach 550 million people annually by translating peer-reviewed research into accessible journalism.

The Pacific Island Health Officers Association (PIHOA)
The Pacific Island Health Officers Association (PIHOA) is a non-profit organization that is led by and represents the collective interests of the Ministers, Secretaries, and Directors of Health of the U.S.-Affiliated Pacific Islands (USAPI). Schmidt Global Health supports PIHOA’s efforts to improve health security in the region by advancing emergency preparedness and epidemiological training.

The Sick Times
The Sick Times is an independent, journalist-founded news site dedicated to covering all aspects of COVID-19 and Long Covid. Schmidt Global Health supports the Sick Times with funding that enables continued regular reporting of important developments related to Long Covid.

The Pacific Community
The Pacific Community (SPC) is an international development organization owned and governed by its 27 country and territory members, and the principal scientific and technical organization in the Pacific region. Schmidt Global Health supports SPC’s leadership of the Pacific Public Health Surveillance Network (PPHSN), and the PPHSN’s efforts to build epidemiology capacity and coordination in the Pacific region, including in response to current measles cases.

University of Kinshasa
The University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN) is the premier public university in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Schmidt Global Health supports UNIKIN’s Department of Tropical Medicine to evaluate a novel, AI-powered screening tool for mpox that operates on basic mobile phones via an SMS interface. The goal is a rapid, accessible, and reliable screening method to support clinical decision-making where resources for laboratory diagnosis are scarce.

University of Western Ontario
The University of Western Ontario (Western University) is a public research university located in London, Ontario, Canada. Schmidt Global Health supports Western University’s global efforts to increase the scientific understanding of Long Covid illness, including identification of disease subtypes, discovery of candidate biomarkers to aid in diagnosis and monitoring, and leading LC-REVITALIZE, a global multi-country adaptive platform therapeutic trial testing the effectiveness of existing therapeutics as potential Long Covid treatments.

Universidad de Santiago de Compostela
The Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials (CiQUS) at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) is an interdisciplinary research center focused on drug discovery, diagnostics, and understanding molecular processes of diseases. Schmidt Global Health supports USC-CiQUS to lead a specialized project to identify and validate proteomic signatures that distinguish individuals with Long Covid from those who have recovered, enabling the development of a diagnostic assay.
World Health Organization (WHO)
The World Health Organization works with all countries and partners to ensure the world is better prepared for health emergencies that threaten global health security. Schmidt Global Health supports the Health Emergencies Programme across innovation, outbreak response, evaluation and training to strengthen global health security architecture. Schmidt Global Health also supports capacity-building for the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence, the Epidemic Intelligence from Open Sources platform, the GOARN Berlin Fellowship Programme and the Syrian Field Epidemiology Training Program.
